Like pilgrims, each crusader swore a vow, and it was to complete the journey and take back the Holy Land (Jerusalem). Any one could be recruits, no matter who they were e.g. peasants, commoners or even knights, but they all needed to have the want to fight, a sinful nature, and were excited by the presence of violence. For the battles, the crusades would first bring food from home, but when they ran out, they either would eat dead peoples' bodies or even steal food from commoners. They were aggressive, 100% brutal and sometimes they could be greedy raiders. They were proud of their duties, but always longed to returned home.
